Congratulations Kelly!

Congratulations to our recent Facebook contest winner, Kelly Joseph Edmunson! We’ve been encouraging folks to “like” us on Facebook and recently held a drawing for a box full of popcorn gifts. We wondered how and when Kelly’s affinity for popcorn began. Here’s what she shared…

“As a child, back in the mid-late 60′s, I remember looking forward to Thursday nights when the TV show My Three Sons was a regular at our house. My two sisters and I would stand in front of the family TV and imitate Rob, Chip and Ernie’s “show opening routine” where they criss-crossed their hands on their knees, to the shows’ theme song. Everyone who used to watch it will know what I’m talking about. It was also on Thursday nights that we had our big snack of the week…grape juice and POPCORN!”

“Popcorn remained a family favorite through my growing up years and as an adult, I was excited to learn that my new in-laws were popcorn lovers too! In fact, during his college days, my father-in-law would eat popcorn with a spoon so he wouldn’t butter up his textbooks. To this day, at the age of 81, he still eats his popcorn with a spoon. Of course there was my first taste of cheese popcorn and then the fancy chocolate popcorn, which is still a family favorite. Popcorn flavors were kept simple back then, with a choice of no butter, lightly buttered or covered and smothered with butter, cheese or chocolate. Nowadays, there are a variety of popcorn toppings, flavors and recipes being introduced at a rapid pace and we’re enjoying every bite of it! My favorite is still cheese popcorn.”

Thanks for sharing, Kelly, and for your ongoing appreciation for one of America’s oldest and most beloved snacks.

What are your childhood popcorn memories?
